Our business segments have realized many pressing social issues, including the aging infrastructure in highly urbanized areas, the labor shortage in an aging society, and the recurrent natural calamities caused by climate change. We have also identified opportunities in two areas: the first lies in reducing the energy consumption of escalators, lightning, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and other building equipment while the second is coexistence by providing a safe, secure, and comfortable environment.

This field draws more and more interest in China. As the country continues to grow, a new round of technological revolution and industrial restructuring has transformed people’s lives in China, and “humans, buildings, and society” have become more inter-connected than ever before. With the constant shifts of the internet era, architectural space is planned with the psychological and behavioral characteristics of future habitants in mind. We will not rest on our laurels, but instead be future-oriented and look to offer new value. Today, the slowdown of the incremental market of elevators highlights the significance of services provided by elevator manufacturers. A healthy man going to the 10th floor will be devastated to find the elevator is out of order, and an aging society will be even more affected by such problems.

About the future of “industrial, innovative, and infrastructure construction”1, let us present a new scenario. With over 20 years of experience, we have laid the groundwork for connected construction equipment. For example, through data acquisition and analysis, we can provide preventive elevator maintenance and minimize disturbance caused by maintenance work. Hitachi boasts world-class Internet-of-things (IoT) solutions, creates value using customer data, accelerates digital innovation, and utilizes its world-leading exclusive digital technology Lumada. While IoT, AI, and other digital technologies grown in importance, we have spread the technologies and experience we have accumulated over the years to China and around the world. With meticulous service, which is written into our company’s DNA, we have made the uttermost use of Lumada to develop and provide new OTxITx-based services. These are far superior to competitors’ and helps achieve the goal of building a safe, secure, and comfortable “sustainable city and community”2 in a comprehensive way.

Through responsible cooperation and social innovation businesses, Hitachi is contributing to the realization of the “Sustainable Development Goals”3 by developing with goodwill and constantly examining our contributions from a social, economic, and environmental perspective. For the vision of “decent work and economic growth”4, Hitachi makes endeavors by expanding globally, reforming working modes, and increasing employment rate through efficient IoT and AI technology. We are an advocate of climate action5 as well as a profit-maker, and in accordance with which we are taking environmental and technological measures. In a nutshell, the value created by our management, products, and service is our contribution to a sustainable society.

Promote Social Development with Collaborative Innovation

Upholding the philosophy established in the China Business Strategy 20181 of “contributing to society through excellent patent technology and product development”, Hitachi defined two social and innovative pillars: to bolster product manufacturing and to enlarge the company footprint in China. Therefore, the growth goal includes not only the revenue target of RMB10 billion, but also to contribute to society through innovative enterprises. We have been creating new value through building intelligence, remote surveillance, and cloud services while our CSR programs help accelerate the sustainability of society today.

A major aspect of sustainability is to coordinate the surrounding resources and launch pioneering activities. Through concerted innovation, Hitachi hopes to solve problems concerning the livelihood of people, such as elevator safety, elevator service, and elevator retrofitting and provide new value for social development. For example, Hitachi and AQSIQ (Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine) have jointly launched an elevator safety regulation reform and innovation pilot in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, equipped Chow Tai Fook International Financial Center in Guangzhou with the fastest elevator technology in the world, and assisted the Liwan District and Yuexiu district governments in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province with the establishment of service centers for elevator retrofitting in old buildings. In addition, we have been strategically investing in the community civilization incubating program, and promoting public safety in thousands of schools, communities, and business districts. Through cooperation with universities, schools, and the Golden Autumn Education Fund, we have provided tens of thousands of college and occupational students with skills training and employment support.

The resources from society will eventually be returned to society. In unison with our employees, partners, and other stakeholders, we are working to solve the industrial shortage in public services. We have defined the three main topics of public welfare activities: education, environment, and society. We have been involved in environmental protection and targeted anti-poverty charitable projects with Alashan SEE, Siyuan Poverty Alleviation Fund, and other partners. We wish many more partners will join us to be a public service conscious innovator promoting the sustainable development of cities and communities.

Sun-Rise Program

Hitachi Elevator started the Sun-Rise Program, a inter-disciplinary, technical, talent cultivation program, in 2013. This program is led by the HR Department and unifies the training center and business unit to design the cultivation system. It adopts small classes for concentrated off-job cultivation. Under joint promotion by the specified head teacher, business adviser and project team members, the program consists of induction psychological counseling, business process learning and practice in a large technical system, field study and practice in a workshop and on the engineering front line, team spirit molding, and enhancement of sum-up ability, etc. In addition to speeding up the reserved talents' psychological adjustment and adaption to the company, it also cultivates inter-disciplinary, technical talents with basic work skills, working attitude for large technical systems, and a complete vision and innovation ability.
